Tina Guiler

I am a Lieutenant for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) in Miami, Florida, in the US.

I started my career in 1999 as a Firefighter and became a Paramedic within 3 years. I later earned Driver engineer and for the past 13 years I have served as a Lieutenant for MDFR.

I have an Associates in Science degree. I am a state certified Fire Inspector. I am an active member of our Departments Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM). I am certified in ASIST Training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).

After 18 years in operations, I obtained the bid position of a Lieutenant Fire Inspector for my Fire Department where we have 20 inspectors for new construction inspections.

Triple F Founder, FF Gea Haff and I work in the same Fire Department. In 2016, I joined as a member of Triple F. I had watched Gea create an environment that allowed women to support other women, uplift other women and inspire women to become their best selves.

After a year of being a member of the group, Gea had asked me If I would like to help her run it. I said, of course, I would be honored to.

The next year working with Gea was amazing. I learned a lot about our members & what women were going through and the different challenges they faced in different parts of the World. Our job was to create a platform for women to be able to reach out for support, advice, and encouragement.

We also wanted to create a training environment that allowed women to discuss different techniques and different ways to get any task completed.

We know no matter how big or small the job may be, it can always be accomplished.

As our platform grew over the next year, FF Gea Haff asked me to take over Triple F and continue our mission. So in 2017, I took over Triple F and got to work. Here we are in 2019, with over 4,600 female firefighters and EMS members from all around the World. We continue this mission because Together We Are Stronger! TrileF-1092-Luciana-Genova-profile

I started as a Volunteer Firefighter in 2014 with Broward Sheriffs Office Fire Department in Broward County, FL. In August of 2015, I was offered a full-time position with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue; now serving as a Firefighter / Paramedic for the 6th largest fire department in the U.S. where opportunities are unlimited. There is not a day that goes by that I don't remember where I came from...not even on the 4 or 5 calls after midnight. Everyday I am in gratitude and I know I have been privileged and blessed beyond what I could ever have imagined. This truly is the GREATEST JOB IN THE WORLD! I hold an Advanced Open Water Diver Certification and am currently an active member on our departments Critical Incident Stress Management Team (CISM) and the BrotHERhood Committee.

I have been studying the art of Mindfulness, Meditation, Holistic Healing, and Self-Help since 2010 and traveling the world with Life Coach Jennifer Grace. She is a huge piece to what has given me so many gifts in this life today. In 2018, I finished my YTT 200 Hour (Yoga Teacher Training) with the instruction of Shay Palmer. I learned very quickly that yoga doesn't just teach you about who you are on the mat...it shows you who you are off the mat in life as well ???? I have an incredibly artistic sister named Victoria Genova who took all of Triple F's amazing shots you see on this website and hopefully more things to come in the future! Thank goodness one of us got the creative gene! I want to finish with leaving one of my favorite quotes:

"Your profession is not what brings home your weekly paycheck, your profession is what you're put here on earth to do, with such passion and such intensity that it becomes spiritual in calling." ~Vincent Van Gogh

Fortunately, the Fire Service is starting to place greater importance on the role of mental health. We know that the body affects the mind, and that the mind affects the body. Taking care of your mental health is vital to having a successful career as a firefighter, enjoying your hard-earned time off, and having a healthy and happy retirement. Basically, we must process the difficult "stuff". "Process" is the key word; "When in doubt, talk it out." If we just "stuff" our feelings away, eventually they can resurface and cause harm. We need to remove the stigma of talking about mental health. Asking for psychological or emotional support is a sign of strength, not weakness. It is a sign that you are taking care of yourself, so you can be there for your co-workers and loved ones. Basically, we must remember that firefighters are tough, but are still human beings; human beings that must support, and look out for, each other.

Peer Support CISM is a model to help with the processing. Trained peers can offer 1:1 support and group interventions, when needed. CISM stands for Critical Incident Stress Management, a program developed by the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF). CISM is a holistic program which includes ongoing education and necessary follow-up after interventions. Sharon Israel, Ph.D. is the Peer Support CISM Coordinator for Triple F, and is available for guidance and resources. Sharon is the Training Coordinator for Miami Dade Fire Rescue's Office of Employee and Support and Community Assistance. She is the CISM Chairperson for the Fire Officers Association of Miami-Dade County, a certified CISM Instructor for ICISF. a certified Instructor for ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), and a State of Florida Fire Instructor III. She holds a Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and a Master of Public Administration. Sharon has two adult children, Tanya and Ryan. She enjoys tap dance, theater, reading, art shows and festivals. Besides the fire service, Sharon is passionate about all things literacy, particularly educating people about dyslexia.
